AAHHE welcomes nominations for the 2026 AAHHE Books of the Year Awards!
The AAHHE "Books of the Year" awards celebrate the rich tapestry of Latinx/a/o/é scholarly excellence in education. Presented by AAHHE, these prestigious awards honor Latinx/a/o/é higher education professionals in the United States whose published work advances the research field of Latinxs/as/os/és in education. In its commitment to confronting the most pressing issues and effectively addressing the needs of Latinx/a/o/é communities, AAHHE embraces works that serve as catalysts for social change and advancing equity and justice for Latinx/a/o/é in education.
The AAHHE Books of the Year Awards are presented at the annual AAHHE national conference.
Author Eligibility
The 2026 award nominations are open to works by Latinx/a/o/é higher education professionals in the United States who published a book or an edited volume between 2023 – 2025. The committee seeks nominations for its Senior Scholar, Mid-Career, Early Career and Edited Volumes categories.
- Edited Volumes Category – recognizes the editor(s) of an edited volume that makes a contribution to Latinx/a/o/é-related education research and scholarship.
- Senior Scholar Category – recognizes a senior scholar who has been promoted to full professor or has been in an academic leadership role for 13+ years
- Mid-Career Category – recognizes a book by a mid-career scholar who’s been granted tenure or who has been in an academic leadership role for 6 to 12 years.
- Early Career Category – recognizes a book by an early career scholar who has been in an academic position for less than 6 years or has not yet been granted tenure.
Book Eligibility

The book should have been published within two years of the deadline (June 2, 2025), and may not have been previously selected for an award in any category.

Reprints, translations, or updated editions of previously published books are ineligible.

The book should align with the mission of the Book of the Year Awards: Focusing on the published work of Latinx/a/o/é higher education professionals in the United States whose published work advances the research field of Latinxs/as/os/és in education.

Books may be submitted in English or Spanish.
Nomination Process
- The call for nominations for the 2026 AAHHE Books of the Year Awards opens on Monday, March 24, 2025.
- The deadline for submission of nominations via the AAHHE Submission portal is Monday, June 2, 2025, 11:59pm ET.
- An author can be nominated or self-nominated.
- Reprints, translations, or updated editions of previously published books are ineligible.
- The AAHHE Awards Selection Committee will be responsible to screen submissions for eligibility.
How to Apply
- A nomination form must be completed via the AAHHE Submission portal no later than Monday, June 2, 2025, 11:59pm ET.
- Within the form, upload a 1-2 page (12-point font) cover letter that describes how the book contributes to Latinxs/as/os/és in education and aligns with the call for the AAHHE Books of the Year Awards.
- Digital book copies are required. Within the nomination form, nominators are required to submit an electronic digital book copy (PDF).
- If an electronic version of the book is not available, five printed book copies should be sent directly from the publisher to Guadalupe Saldivar, AAHHE Editor, 20622 Gelman Dr., Riverside, CA, 92508. If this option is requested, we must receive the book copies by the end of the day on Monday, June 2, 2025, to be eligible. Book copies received without an online completed form will not be considered.
What recognition will be given to the winners?
Award winners will be presented with an AAHHE Award as they are recognized at the Awards ceremony of the 2026 AAHHE National Conference, taking place in San Diego, CA, on March 27-29, 2026. Award winners are required to be available either in-person or virtually to receive the award. Awardees unable to attend the awards ceremony will be linked virtually to the conference. If traveling to the 2026 AAHHE National Conference, no compensation will be provided for the registration fee, travel, lodging, etc.
Important Dates and Deadlines
March 24, 2025 2026 AAHHE Awards Call for Nominations opens via AAHHE Submission portal.
June 2, 2025, 11:59pm ET 2026 AAHHE Awards Call for Nominations closes. By this date, the nominee’s cover letter and resume or CV have been submitted via the AAHHE Submission portal, and AAHHE has received the digital book copy (required). Please see the How to Apply section if an electronic version of the book is not available.
Early January 2026 Notifications are sent to award winners.
January 16, 2026 By this date, a 200-word maximum biography (MSWord) and a professional photo (JPEG) has been submitted for the award winner via the AAHHE Submission portal (link will open at a later date).
February and March 2026 Announcements will be posted on the AAHHE website and press releases will go out to the AAHHE membership at large.
March 27-29, 2026 2026 Award winners will be recognized at the awards luncheon at the 2026 AAHHE National Conference in San Diego, CA.
