AAHHE Writing Workshops
Going From Research to Publication
Sessions available: October 2, 2024, 2:00pm-4:30pm ET $50 for Members | $75 for Non-Members
Engaging in research and publication is vital to the work of faculty from the humanities to the STEM fields, as they aim to contribute to new knowledge, inform policy and practice, and advance in their careers to earn tenure and promotion. Yet the mentoring and socialization that doctoral students and early career faculty receive varies greatly and may not always include a clear understanding or demystification of this research to publication process. This interactive workshop responds to this need, providing a supportive, inclusive space where graduate students and early career faculty from all disciplines can build on their understanding about the various steps necessary to go from designing and carrying out a study to identifying an outlet to disseminate findings, to approaching a revise and resubmit disposition. Strategies and tools will also be offered to assist participants in attending to some of the real challenges associated with these steps, such as collaborating on research, navigating the politics of authorship, and dealing with rejection. In this way, the workshop aims to make the implicit aspects of the research to publication process explicit and manageable, providing participants an opportunity to personalize the resources provided to meet their scholarly goals and needs.
